Pudelpointer

Sponsored by Blackwood Pet Food

The Pudelpointer lends historic significance to the concept of Designer Dogs. Towards the latter part of the 19th century, the hunt was on to create the ultimate gun dog. Baron von Zediltz, a German breeder, sought to produce a dog that could track, point and retrieve on land and in water. By breeding the perfect poodles and pointers together, the Pudelpointer arose.

In Germany today, the breeds performing abilities are held to the highest standards. In order to be officially registered, each Pudelpointer is put through a rigorous test of water and field skills. In North America, the breed has yet to gain any significant popularity. However, the Winterhelle Kennel maintains itself as the breed’s founding father in the New World.

The Pudelpointer makes a loyal family dog and friend. On the hunt, he is an excellent all purpose dog, comfortable in the water and on the trail. While his coat varies to certain degree, it is predominantly wiry and dense. And with his whisker covered muzzle and bushy eyebrows, he possesses a one-of-a-kind character.

He is medium sized, achieving a height of 22 to 25 inches at the shoulder and weighing between 45 to 70 pounds.
